Rule Name: Book Chapter Direct Requester

What this Rule Does:

Looks at book chapter article requests in your borrowing queues and sends requests out to IDS Project Libraries:

  • Determines if the request is a book chapter request (differentiates between issn and isbn)
  • Searches your z39.50 for availability information, and then either:
    • Routes to Doc Del (importing call number and location) if you own the item and it is available.
    • If not owned or unavailable, sends request out via OCLC/Worldshare ILL with appropriate lender string.

Why would you want to use this Rule?

  • Automates local availability checking of book chapter requests, and sends borrowing chapter requests out without any staff intervention.

What is needed to use this Rule?

  • Be an active user of IDS Logic
  • Recommended set up of Borrowing Availability Service through IDS Logic, including Z39.50 settings.
  • Determine what collections are:
    • Routed for staff review.
    • Will need availability to be determined as always or never available.
  • Determine what queues you want to send book chapter requests from automatically, such as Awaiting Copyright Clearance and Awaiting Request Processing.
